My Approach

My therapeutic style is warm, engaging, and collaborative. I tailor my approach to each person to provide thoughtful, individualized care. Rooted in evidence-based psychodynamic and psychoanalytic traditions, my work focuses on the deeper, unconscious aspects of emotional and relational life. This approach can help you better understand not just what you’re feeling, but why, and how longstanding patterns may be shaping your self-esteem, relationships, and daily life.

My approach is present-focused, so we make space to address what brings you to therapy now. At the same time, I believe the past is essential to understanding the present. Early experiences create an imprint for how you encounter the world as an adult. More specifically, relationships with childhood caregivers, parents, siblings, and other significant people help shape your adult patterns of relating, and so exploring your history helps us make sense of your current difficulties.

As our work deepens and you feel comfortable, we’ll make use of the therapeutic relationship to explore what’s happening between you and me in the room. This relationship often becomes a microcosm of the patterns and dynamics you experience elsewhere in your life. By noticing and reflecting on what emerges between us, we can better understand how these relational dynamics operate outside of therapy and begin to work through them in a more immediate and transformative way.

Getting Started

I offer a complimentary 20-minute phone consultation. During the consultation, I will ask questions to get a sense of what brings you to therapy and how I may be able to help. It’s also a chance for you to ask questions and get a feel for whether you’d feel comfortable working together. By the end of the call, we’ll discuss next steps, whether that means scheduling an initial evaluation or offering referrals to other providers who might be a better fit.

If we decide to move forward, we’ll begin with an initial evaluation that takes place over three sessions. These meetings give us time to explore your presenting concerns and their history, understand your needs, and determine whether this is a good therapeutic match. If we choose to continue, we’ll also discuss the frequency and scheduling of our ongoing sessions.

I meet with individuals and couples between one and four times per week, depending on your needs. Meeting more frequently allows us to work at greater depth, supporting lasting change and deeper insight.

Sessions are available both in person at my office in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and online via secure video.
