My Approach
My therapeutic style is both warm and engaging, and I carefully adapt my approach to each person to provide highly individualized care. I make use of an evidence-based psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approach to help you gain insight and create deep, meaningful, and lasting change. I will work collaboratively with you to encourage self-reflection and carefully explore emotional experiences, aiming to reduce your suffering and help you make the changes that you seek.
In our work together, we will address your present issues and concerns, while also attending to your earliest experiences and relationships. These earlier experiences create an imprint for how you encounter the world as an adult. More specifically, relationships with early caregivers, parents, and other significant adults help shape your adult patterns of relating, and so, addressing them will help us better understand the conflicts that underlie your current difficulties.
Similarly, the therapeutic relationship that develops between us will serve as a first-hand microcosm for your present issues, dynamics, and conflicts. We will make use of the working relationship that develops between us to clarify and explore these repeating dynamics and work through them in the here-and-now.
Getting Started
I offer a complimentary 20-minute phone consultation. During the consultation, I will ask questions to get a sense of what brings you to therapy and how I may be of help to you. This will be an opportunity for you to ask questions and evaluate whether you feel comfortable working with me. By the end of the call, we will determine next steps, including whether to schedule an initial evaluation or discuss referrals to other providers.
If we agree to move forward, we will schedule an initial evaluation to take place across three sessions. During these sessions, we will evaluate your needs and further explore your presenting issues and their history. If we both determine that this is a good therapeutic match, we will discuss the frequency and scheduling of our sessions.
I meet with individuals and couples one to three times per week, depending on your needs. This allows us to work on a deeper and more effective level, helping you achieve the results you seek.
I offer online and in person sessions in my office in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
